"You live long enough to hear the sound of guns
Long enough to find yourself screaming every night
Long enough to see your friends betray you."
Uncertainty and doubt have plagued my thoughts and dreams for the last week. With no one to turn to for answers, I find myself taking comfort in music.
In particular, I am drawn to a certain album.. not for the songs it contains, but for the beautiful story inspiring the lyrics.. the insatiable need to express, until pain shatters the walls holding back creativity, and it flows unending, powerful waves shaping all it touches. Words left unspoken for so long, now cry out, but in vain. Falling on deaf ears.
This story is of a poet and a siren. He wrote the words for her to sing; their combination unique, beautiful. Through the lovely siren, the world heard the words of the poet. Together they touched many lives with song.
And he loved her. In every lyric, in every song, he told her so. The poet adored his beautiful siren, and the words he wrote were for her, the songs she sang were for her. The world shared in his joy and loved her too.
But the siren did not see his love. She became manipulated by another man, and she betrayed the poet.
Then he was alone.
The poet had lost his siren.
His pain became his songs, and the world knew of his love and his loss.
"Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?"
"For the heart I'll never have
For the child forever gone
The music flows, because it longs
For the heart I once had."
